The Barriere/Clearwater grade 8-9 boys combined rugby team won their West Zone Championship earlier this month.

Barriere Elementary School (BES) held their annual track and field day on Wednesday, May 11. The turnout was impressive and the weather was kind.

The Barriere Secondary School golf team came out with the gold at the West Zone Championships held earlier this month. As a result of their win the team will now be competing in the Okanagan Championships. Barriere’s gold medal winners are shown on the left of this photograph; (l-r) Spencer Schilling, Connor Farrow, Drew Pederson, Cameron Salle, and Logan Jones. Also pictured are the second place team from St. Ann’s Academy, in Kamloops (names were not available at press time).

The North Thompson Fall Fairgrounds in Barriere, was a busy place again last weekend when the BC Cattle Penning Association took over the facility for the second time this year with two fast moving days of penning competitions that provided a purse of $70,000 to the top teams.

The 2nd annual Barriere Pickleball Club Tournament was held in the community on Saturday, April 30, with 16 players participating, including three from Clearwater.

The much anticipated Allies Mountain Bike Festival scheduled to take place this weekend in the North Thompson Valley community of Chu Chua has been cancelled.

The B.C. Wildlife Federation report the provincial government has reconsidered and rejected several new regulations that could have shut down more than 100 practice ranges across British Columbia.

A showcase of working dogs will be at the Barriere fairgrounds Oct. 15-16.
