On Feb. 3, the Barriere Outdoor Club snowshoed with Barriere Secondary grade 7 students at the Barriere Forks ski and snowshoe trails on East Barriere Lakes Road.

Cold temperatures, grey skies and unpredictable weather are hallmarks of winter, and while the instinct might be to stay indoors, getting outside can offer a wide range of benefits for young people.

The Barriere Outdoor Club hosted the first ski lesson of the season last month for Barriere Secondary School grade 7 students

“The Barriere Forks ski and snowshoe trails are ready to go,” advised Barriere Outdoor Club rep Mary MacLennan on Jan. 10.

It has been many years since the weather was cold enough over a period of time to be able to create ice for skating in the tennis/pickleball court in Barriere.
