Ladies prove they can take the heat

Ladies prove they can take the heat

Wow, who turned up the thermostat? I thought I was going to melt on Tuesday, Aug. 4. There was certainly no need for jackets or sweaters - even later when dining on the patio. We had a good turnout of ladies with 36 in total so I don’t think the heat scared anyone away.
Celebrating Saturday Night Fever

Celebrating Saturday Night Fever

Well, there weren’t any pots and putts on Tuesday, but there were loads of people, pins and prizes. The Chinook Cove Ladies Golf celebrated with our first-of-the-season fun night. We decided to give Christmas in July a rest and most of us were tired of hearing about Covid Fever. Instead, we celebrated Saturday Night Fever.

In the words of Glenn Yarborough… “But, baby the rain must fall, baby, the wind must blow, wherever my heart leads me baby, I must go, baby I must go”. And fell it did last Tuesday…a rain so hard that the Star / Journal posted a video of it on Facebook. Every year when the annual North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo takes place one of the most popular events for fairgoers is the Heavy Horse competitions. Over the three days of the event these gentle giants compete in conformation classes, single hitch to multiple hitch driving, log skidding, timed events, the heavy horse pull competition, and the annual Fall Fair Parade.

When the sun was out it was hot, and then it was not

To say the weather on Tuesday June 30 was unsettled would be quite the understatement. While golfing the second and third holes which takes less than 10 minutes Deb Rainer wore shorts; put her long pants on over her shorts; put her jacket on; put on her rain pants; put on her rain coat and then took them all off (except the shorts) in reverse order. Lois McInnis took to using her beads to count Deb’s changes instead of counting her strokes. When the sun was out it was hot.

Happy Canada Day from horseback

A very rainy July 1st did not deter the enthusiasm of Barriere area equestrians, (l-r) Catherine Dalfort, Kyra Blackburn, Olivia Greenland, and Cherie Jardine, as they paraded in red attire waving Canadian flags to mark Canada Day in the community.
Ladies Golf – short, sweet, and to the point

Ladies Golf – short, sweet, and to the point

OMG…it is Saturday! My column was due Friday and I had Wednesday and Thursday to write it. I have an excuse or I should say many excuses. I am old. My memory is bad. I have no idea where the week has gone.
