The Yellowhead 4-H Club held their Achievement Day at the fairgrounds in Barriere on Sunday, August 18.

The Thompson Valley Players hosted a theatre workshop in Barriere the week of Aug. 5, for some 20 students at the North Thompson Activity Community Center facility in The Ridge.

Barriere First Responders held their annual appreciation barbecue on Aug. 18 with all of their members who attend 911 calls, as well as those who contribute to all of the other activities of the organization.

Young adults aged 15-30 are invited to volunteer with the Invasive Species Council of BC Healthy Habitats project to help prevent the spread of invasive species in British Columbia. Volunteers will benefit from training and leadership opportunities while developing and enhancing skills.

A highly anticipated event of the summer for families in the Barriere area is back for another year.

The Thompson-Nicola Invasive Plant Management Committee (TNIPMC) is asking the public to be on alert for invasive Japanese knotweed and report sightings in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.

First aid training for children was on the agenda July 31 at the North Thompson Activity Centre Summer Care Program at the Barriere Ridge. Paramedics, and Community Paramedicine paramedic Mikael Kjellstrom, spent a good part of the day teaching the children about the ambulances, as well as basic first aid training. The children loved learning how to do CPR on babies as well as on adults.
