Smoke blamed for poor golf game

Smoke blamed for poor golf game

In those memorable words of Yogi Berra with all this smoke in the air I can imagine that many of you are going through the same “deja vu all over again” that I am. All that is missing to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up is the sound of helicopters.
Kayaking the Clearwater River

Kayaking the Clearwater River

A group of kayakers make their way down the Clearwater River from the Kettle put-in area for an event for the Clearwater Kayak Festival held Aug. 7 to 9. Paddlers from all over gathered in Clearwater for the weekend festivities that included camping, live music, yoga and of course, whitewater kayaking. One paddler braved the rapids to perch himself on a rock to take photos of the paddlers as they went by. (Stephanie Hagenaars / Clearwater Times)

What a strange summer I am having. Feeling a bit like something barbecued - hot and smoky. On Tuesday, July 27 ,the afternoon and evening gave us a light breeze that helped to keep us cool. Forty-one ladies turned out for our fourteenth Ladies Night of the season. That means we are two-thirds through our 2021 season.

Tuesday, Aug. 3, was another warm day. The smoke had thinned in the morning showing us some of those lovely blue skies but by mid-afternoon it was rolling back in. I felt a bit like a wet noodle by the time we had finished our round. So I guess what I am saying is that the heat and smoke is the reason I didn’t golf well. Despite the temperature, 47 ladies turned out to play a round.

I am proof positive that you can have a very bad game and still go home a winner. My final score on Tuesday, July 20, was dismal to say the least but I did get a birdie on Hole 1 and a chip-in on Hole 7 which earned me two sizable pots. I went home with a smile on my face.
