BC SPCA is offering free summer camps for kids impacted by wildfire. The BC SPCA Humane Education team wants to make a tough summer a little bit better for families affected by the wildfires burning across the province. What makes everything better? Animals!

The following is a story written by Barriere resident Donna Kibble during the fall of 2003. It recounts her family’s experience after returning home to their property on Barriere Lakes Road from an eight day evacuation due to the McLure Wildfire.

A number of area residents have commented they are seeing fewer and fewer bees as heavy wildfire smoke has rolled into the North Thompson Valley. They are no longer seeing bees visiting the flowers in their gardens as often as they were before, and have become concerned that the smoke may be killing or incapacitating Nature’s industrious little workers.

The North Thompson Communities Foundation is once again accepting applications for the annual Donnie Nicholson Memorial Trades Bursary Fund from anyone age 18-29 residing in the North Thompson Valley (Blue River to McLure) who is entering a post secondary institution for the trades and/ or technology.
