Taya Lonsdale has been named the Canadian Sport School Hockey League's 2025 female league MVP.

Led by senior forward Taya Lonsdale, who earned the Female U18 Prep MVP Award, Shawnigan Lake School hockey players took five 2024-25 Canadian Sport School Hockey League honours.

In addition to being the league MVP, as voted by the coaches, Lonsdale earned a spot as one of five B.C. Division First Team All-Stars.

"Lonsdale led the way with 27 goals and 52 points in 30 games this past season, captaining Shawnigan Lake to a third place finish," said the CSSHL. "Committed to Cornell University, the Shawnigan Lake, B.C. forward finished her CSSHL career with 129 games, 57 goals, 63 assists, and 120 points, placing her eighth, ninth, 15th and 10th all-time among Female U18 Prep skaters."

Shawnigan Lake coach Carly Haggard said Lonsdale is "so deserving" of the award.

"She has been at Shawnigan for five years and her growth on and off the ice has been remarkable," Haggard said. "From the moment I met her she has dreamt of going to an Ivy League school to play hockey and she committed to Cornell, which is truly a remarkable feat. They are one of the best teams in the country and obviously an outstanding school."

Lonsdale's teammate, defender Lola Macuiba, was also named to the B.C. Division First Team All-Star team. Macuiba was nominated for Female U18 Prep top defender of the year. Also a senior, she will be attending Bemidji State in the fall.

"I don’t think I’ve ever coached someone who works harder than Lola," Haggard said. "Her drive and passion are absolutely outstanding. She makes everyone around her want to be better. Her positive attitude is exceptional and she has truly thrived at Shawnigan for the last two years. Her work ethic in the classroom is just as great as her work ethic on the ice. She’s the epitome of a great student athlete."

What's more, their teammates goalie Alix Walchuk and forward Zoe Cramer earned U18 Prep B.C. Division Second Team All-Star nods. Walchuk has comitted to playing the 2025-26 season at York University while Cramer's got one more year to play at Shawnigan.

"This is Alix’s first year at Shawnigan and she truly has thrived in all areas," Haggard said. "She was the backbone to our success all year. She’s calm under pressure and very reliable, a great teammate on and off the ice."

"This is Zoe‘s second year at Shawnigan and she’s an amazing student athlete," the coach continued. "Her work ethic is incredible on and off the ice. She’s a leader and her hockey IQ is one of the top I have seen. She’s committed to Mercyhurst university once she graduates next year."

On the boys' side, Defender Vincent Croteau also earned U18 Prep B.C. Division Second Team All-Star honours. He is committed to playing with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the B.C. Hockey League next season.

"Our team and school is so proud of these deserving athletes," Haggard said. "Our team certainly has many amazing athletes, but it’s nice for these four specifically to be recognized. Our program is getting such high achieving student-athletes and we are excited to continue to build the program."
