Barb Buchanan has recently retired from School District No.73 after 31 years as a Certified Education Assistant, working with disabled and special needs children at all the schools in Barriere (including the Barriere Ridge) during those years. She has spent the last 20 years of her employment at Barriere Secondary.

As the second semester of the school year gets underway at Barriere Secondary School there are a number of staffing changes taking place.

The Winter Farmers Market is held in the Barriere Seniors Hall every two weeks - next one is Feb. 8

The Barriere First Responders Society (BAFRS) is a registered non-profit organization that operates in the community and plays an integral part in emergency services by standing ready to assist the community as needed.

Healthy Beginning Parent and Tot Program runs 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the North Thompson Activity Centre in the Barriere Ridge. This program is now overlapping for added fun with the Yellowhead Community Services’ new program Tumble Bumble. Drivers urged to use caution

The District of Barriere has received a gift for the community from Lauren Neufeld and family of 150 Mile House, B.C. The gift is a painted canvas which was made by the Neufeld children for everyone to see in appreciation of the kindness of the Barriere community during the 2017 wildfire evacuations from the Cariboo. At the present time the canvas is mounted on the wall behind the receptionist’s desk at the District of Barriere. (Ellen Monteith photo)
