People in the Interior Health (IH) region have another tool to make safer choices about drug use. For some, the stigma or shame associated with seeking out substance use services can be a barrier to accessing the health system. Now, new take-home drug testing strips are available and offer an alternative to clients who previously had to come into supervised consumption sites or community health centres to check their drugs.

“How delightful it was to hear that a young lady in our community named Eva Stephens wanted a Toonie Birthday Party,” says Judy Taylor, president of The Anti-Violence Advocates Society.

On Feb. 5, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Barriere RCMP, Clearwater RCMP, and Emergency Services responded to a fatal collision in the Darfield, B.C., area on Highway 5, north of Barriere.

The Barriere and District Riding Club will be hosting their 3rd Annual Family Fun Day at the North Thompson Agriplex on Monday, Feb. 17. This year one of the feature events will be one of the Club’s Gymkhana Winter Buckle Series, as well as a tack sale, home-based business vendor booths, door prizes, educational displays, stick horse games and a concession. New funding announced in January means Thompson Rivers University (TRU) will be offering trades training to Indigenous students closer to their homes and with needed supports.

Students and adults of all ages were captivated by magic at Barriere Elementary on Jan. 29 when a fun filled and action packed 45 minute magic entertainment show took place in the school’s gymnasium. Magician Leif Davis with his Ali K. Zam Productions provided everything required for the performance which wowed both children and adults. The show had everyone interacting, participating, and engaged in the comedy and magic.

What a wonderful picnic it was!

Barb Buchanan has recently retired from School District No.73 after 31 years as a Certified Education Assistant, working with disabled and special needs children at all the schools in Barriere (including the Barriere Ridge) during those years. She has spent the last 20 years of her employment at Barriere Secondary.
