The International shipping and logistics bottle neck that is currently happening across the world, is also effecting local government in Canada, including the District of Barriere.
“We are still trying to complete some year end projects, but are awaiting parts,” said District of Barriere CAO Bob Payette in an interview with the ronaldomanosa last Monday.
Payette explained Barriere has been impacted by shipping delays as the municipality is still awaiting delivery of the required PLC component for the town’s newly ground well.
“Right now the component is still somewhere between the manufacturer and the receiver,” added the CAO, “The receiving end is our electrical contractor, who we have hired to build and install the control panel that operates the components for the well pump station. The control panel is a critical part of our water distribution system. Basically, it is the brains of the system that monitors the well’s flow rates and keeps the operators updated on chemical levels, monitors for any anomalies in the system, and allows remote operations.”
What this means for the town, is that the municipal water system will continue to utilize the older Deep Well until the ordered PLC component arrives for the new well.
“The water quality from the older Deep Well is excellent,” said Payette, “However, the pump for that will need to be replaced a soon as we can get the new well online. We fully expect to have both wells at Spruce Crescent up and running together in the new year with plenty of water capacity for residents to get back to stage 1 use next summer.
“In the meantime, the demand on the municipal water system is very manageable during the winter, and we are looking forward to completing this project early in the new year.”
