The Father’s Day Fishing Derby sponsored by The North Thompson Fish and Game Club (NTFGC) was held on Sunday June 15, 2025 in Barriere.
In total there were 33 adult entrants and eight children participating this year.
“It was a fantastic day for the Father’s Day Fishing Derby, and we had people entered from as far away as West Kelowna and Penticton this year,” said organizer Kathy Campbell.
The derby rules stated participants could go to any lake within 50 kilometres of the Fadear Park bandshell to fish in the competition.
Campbell was impressed with the fish that were caught.
“The hidden weight this year was 6 pounds 15 ounces and won by Shantana Punder. Tristan Holt received the prize for the largest overall weight with a single fish, a ‘Laker’ coming in at an impressive 10.42 pounds. Gary Sorensen received the prize for the largest Rainbow Trout at 2.24 pounds and our oldest fisherman was 80 years young this year,” she said.
The NTFGC made sure all of the youth 16-years-old and under received a prize of their choosing from the selection table set up for them at the Fadear Park bandshell.
“No two entrants were at the same lake this year and we had a great variety of lakes involved within the 50-kilometre radius of our checkpoint at Fadear Park. We are looking forward to doing this again in 2026,” said Campbell.
