A steady diet of wind, rain and cold was on the agenda for three Venturers and one Scout at their survival camp at Janice Lake in late June.
For their menu they allowed themselves only spices, ketchup and margarine, and expected to harvest natural wild plants and fishy food from the lake.
They soon learned that the tender green shoots of fireweed are not their favourite food, dandelion greens are tolerable, tea made from strawberry and wild current leaves is excellent, and the one lone seven inch trout that Danile caught had to be the most delicious trout in the whole world!
Unfortunately, no one else caught any fish. Fortunately, survival camp lasted only 24 hours.
We survived.
