Please take some time out of your day to join with others from the area and pay your respects to those who have served and are serving this Remembrance Day, Monday, Nov. 11.
If you are unable to attend a local event, please take two minutes of silence and reflection at 11 a.m. in honour of the brave men and women who have protected, and continue to protect, us all.
Ceremonies within the North Thompson Valley taking place in the honoured territory of Simpcw First Nation in Barriere, Chu Chua Village, Clearwater, and Blue River include:
Barriere School ceremonies
Nov. 8: Barriere Elementary School students, staff and families will meet in the gymnasium at: 10:30 a.m.
Nov. 8: Barriere Secondary School is holding their Remembrance Day assembly at 10:30 a.m. in the high school gym, and families are welcome.
Clearwater School ceremonies
Nov. 8: Raft River Elementary School students and staff invite all in the community to attend the ceremony to honour veterans in the gym starting at 9:30 a.m.
Nov. 8: Clearwater Secondary School ceremony honouring those who serve is in the multi-purpose room at the high school starting at 11:45 a.m.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #259 will be participating in both the elementary and high school ceremonies on Nov. 8 in Clearwater.
Simpcw First Nation
Nov. 11: Simpcw First Nation and area residents will be gathering at the Cenotaph Spiritual Centre in Chu Chua, with the Remembrance Day Ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m. Sharing of memories and a moment of silence will take place, and lunch and refreshments will follow. Royal Canadian Legion Branch #242 (Shaver Road, Barriere)
Nov. 11: The Barriere Legion’s Remembrance Day will commence with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. "O Canada" will be sung at 10:58 a.m. The last post will be played at 10:59 a.m. followed by two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. A formal itinerary will be given upon entering, and a light lunch will follow.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #259 (257 Glen Road, Clearwater)
Nov. 11: The Remembrance Day Ceremony will start at 10:45 a.m. at the Reg Small Park Cenotaph. The legion advises that all those who have purchased wreaths to place at the cenotaph should pick them up on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. Wreaths that have not been picked up by 10:40 a.m. will not be placed. Everyone present is welcome to come to the Legion for a spaghetti lunch following the ceremony.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #213 (817 Pine Street, Blue River)
Nov. 11: Remembrance Day Ceremony to begin upstairs in the legion hall starting at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is welcomed to attend, and there will be a light lunch to follow.
