What a beautiful day for a Walk!  Last Sunday was gorgeous - bright blue sky, hardly a cloud to be seen, and by the time the Barriere Investors Group Walk For Alzheimer’s started, it had warmed up enough that you didn’t need a coat.

There was a pretty good turnout of people for the Walk which took place this year at the Fall Fair grounds.

Organizers set a goal of $10,000, and as of press time they are almost there – just $350 short.

The final count  on funds raised won’t be in until the end of May, as people can still donate online if they weren’t able to make the Walk (or contact co-chairs, Margaret and Liz).

Income from the non-pledge items: Raffle $1485.75; Silent Auction $268; the Jelly Bean Jar contest $9.50; student Dryden Oja-Ames arranged for another ‘Hat Day’ at Barriere Elementary and brought in $73.05; the donation boxes in various stores around the community brought in $139.22;and, back in November of 2016, the No-Host Bazaar brought in $303.

The Walk pledges and day-of-event donations, including on-line donations received to May 6, and are listed here by the hometown of those who donated: Barriere walkers $2985; Clearwater walkers $2763.40; Clinton walkers $394.60; Louis Creek walkers  $250; Kamloops walkers brought in $240; and Little Fort walkers brought in $20.

There were also two corporate cheques received, totalling $560.

Of course, there were many other donations - all the door prizes, silent auction items, and the raffle prizes.

Co-chairs Liz Gilbertson and Margaret Houben thanked everyone who donated, as well as all the volunteers who helped set-up, clean-up, man the tables and do all the many jobs that need to be done to make an event like this happen.

“The generosity of the North Thompson Valley residents is awesome,” said Houben.
