Barriere Elementary School Principal's Message

Principal Mikel Brogan of Barriere Elementary School shares his monthly message for parents, guardians and staff

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the start of the school year as much as we are! September has been busy and exciting, and I want to thank you for all the support you’ve given us so far.

As we move into October, I’m happy to announce that as of Oct. 8, our hot lunch program has started again on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This year, we’ve made some changes to the menu that I think the students will really enjoy. Thanks to a generous grant I was able to secure again this year, we can offer the program at half the regular price.

I’d like to remind everyone about a few important rules for visiting the school. Please check in at the office and sign in when you arrive. Also, please avoid bringing food to students before the bell rings, as it can disrupt the class. If needed, you can drop food off at the office, and we’ll make sure it gets to your child during lunch.

For safety reasons, we ask that parents stay off the playground and out of classrooms during recess, lunch, and before or after school as part of our “stranger danger” policy. However, you are welcome to enjoy the playground with your children outside school hours, which is before 7:45 a.m. and after 3 p.m. Thank you for always checking in at the office when you visit.

A special thank you to our amazing Parent Advisory Council for organizing the "Welcome Back BBQ" in September, and to all the families who came! Your participation made it a great success.

Here are some dates of note to keep in mind for October:

Thursday, Oct. 10: Parent-Teacher Interviews from 3 to 5 p.m. Look out for more information from your child’s teacher about scheduling.

Friday, Oct. 25: Province-wide Professional Development Day

Thursday, Oct. 31: Halloween Dance Party. The primary students will dance from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and the Intermediate students from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. PAC will also provide a free hot dog lunch for all students that day.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at 250-672-9916 or by email at mbrogan@sd73.bc.ca. You can also visit the school's website at https://barriere-elem.sd73.bc.ca/en/index.aspx.

Wishing you all a fantastic October!
