Barriere Elementary - Principal's Message

Principal Mikel Brogan encourages parents and caregivers to support PAC

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

October was another eventful month here at Barriere Elementary School, and it’s hard to believe we’re already midway through November.

I encourage all parents to consider volunteering and supporting our wonderful PAC group. Thanks to their efforts, we’re thrilled to introduce a new initiative this year: the Open Parachute mental health program. This program focuses on promoting mental health awareness, resilience, and emotional well-being among students. Here’s a brief overview of its key components:

  • Curriculum Resources: Lesson plans and activities to help educators teach students about mental health topics, coping strategies, and emotional literacy.
  • Student Engagement: Interactive activities designed to help students understand their own mental health and that of their peers.
  • Support for Educators: Training and resources for teachers to effectively deliver the program and support students' mental health needs.
  • Parent Involvement: Resources to help parents better understand mental health and support their children.

The overall goal of Open Parachute is to create a supportive school environment where students can learn about mental health, reduce stigma, and develop skills to manage their emotions and challenges effectively. This program aligns perfectly with our school’s emotional well-being goals, focusing on keeping our students safe, healthy, and emotionally supported. We are deeply grateful to our PAC for making this valuable program possible.

As always, my door is open. If you would like to meet with me, please feel free to book an appointment—I’d be happy to connect in person or by phone.
