Ladies Golf Night started again on Tuesday, April 25 and I was so excited.
Deb and I have been chairing Ladies Golf for a long time and 2023 marks our 20th season. A lot has happened in those 20 years. We have met a lot of people. Had many laughs and made the odd decent golf stroke.
I don’t really feel any older. In the words of Bob Dylan “I was so much older then. I’m younger than that now.”
There were 36 ladies that took to the fairways and greens for our first night of golf. Spring chose to arrive that day and we were all treated to a gorgeous afternoon and evening.
Supper on the patio of the 19th Hole Restaurant was delicious. The first night of the season is always interesting as Deb and I work to get our ducks in a row.
Deb had things under control and Donna Salle was right there to help us out as always and although she doesn’t have an official title she is also in her 20th season as our girl Friday. We appreciate her calm and cool demeanor.
Thanks to the great job that Deb does rounding up sponsors there were many prizes to hand out. Can anyone really say no to her? Sundown Construction, Steve Passmore of Sun Life Financial, Kelly McNabney of TriPeaks Physio and Quality Contractors are our low gross and net sponsors for the year. Flight 1 winners were Susan Mitchell (low gross - 44) and Susan Newberry (low net - 45/34.5).
In Flight 2 Terri Jones scored 52 to win low gross and Trish Thompson scored 54 (37) to win net. Jeannie Webber took the Flight 3 low gross with a 51 while Emma Schilling’s 55 (35) earned her low net. The first low gross in Flight 4 was Laurie Hawley (52) and second low gross was Pearl Harp (55).
There were two pot winners: Susan Newberry had a birdie in Flight 1 and Deb Rainer had a chip-in in Flight 2.
Lovely long drives earned prizes for Susan Mitchell (AG Foods), Babes Shanko (Armour Mountain Office Services), Deb Winiski (Barriere Motor Inn) and Theresa Robinson.
Theresa also picked up the accuracy prize from Barriere Timber Mart. Particularly precious putters earned prizes for Susan Mitchell (Blue Moon Galeria), Trish Thompson (HUB International), Emma Schilling (Just U), Rose Seymour (Rainer Custom Cutting)and Pearl Hart (Thompson Valley Awards).
KP (Closest to the pin) prizes were won by Susan Newberry (Cindy Leibel Real Estate Corp), Trish Thompson (MJB Lawyers), Cathy McNeil (Stamer Logging) and Laurie Hawley (EBL Ventures for KP in 2). The prizes for KPs from Salle Ranch, the Smiths (Barb and Carman), the Carls (Brenda and Brian) and Campbell & Co. went unclaimed so two additional door prizes were drawn. North Thompson Funeral Services is once again our Rest in Peace sponsors and a large number of ladies took home a new ball thanks to them.
The KP in two prizes for Hole 7 were won by Susan Newberry (Sam’s Pizza) and Pearl Hart (Station House Restaurant). Susan Mitchell earned the KP in 3 prize from the Local Artisan Market of Louis Creek on Hole 8. That is quite a feat. I am always excited to get up on that green in five or six.
Laurie Hawley took home the least putt prize (14) while Lynda Fournier took the most putt prize (26).
All in all a successful beginning to the season…for some a little more successful than for others. Oh well, there is always next week.
In the words of Scarlett O’Hara “I can’t think about it now. I’ll go crazy if I do — I’ll think about it tomorrow. After all tomorrow is another day.”
See you at the course.
