Ladies Golf Night with Leslie Stirling at Chinook Cove

Fifteen ladies did show up for Chinook Cove Golf Ladies’ Night last Tuesday and kudos to them

May 23, 2023 at Chinook Cove Golf Resort here is your weekly Golf Report with Leslie Stirling.

As Glenn Yarbrough warbled “But baby, the rain must fall. Baby, the wind must blow. Wherever my heart leads me Baby, I must go.” And the spot that my heart lead me to was my easy chair with my book. I know sometimes people think I am not all there but on Tuesday I wasn’t there at all. I wimped out.

Fifteen ladies did show up for Chinook Cove Golf Ladies’ Night last Tuesday and kudos to them. To paraphrase Rudyard Kipling “You’re a better lady golfer than I am, Gunga din”.

Of course Debbie Rainer held down the fort, balanced the books and handed out some of the prizes. I had the rest of the prizes at home in my golf bag and they will be handed out next week.

I thought it might be simpler to just report what each person won rather than do a hole by hole commentary. It may get confusing but that has been one of my strong suits - confusing people.

Susan Newberry was the Flight 1 low gross winner (Sundown Construction) as well as making a long drive (Rainer Custom Cutting) and a KP in 2 (AG Foods).

Donna Salle had the low net for that flight and also made a long drive (Barriere Timber Mart) and a long putt (HUB International).

Debbie Rainer scored a 51 to win low gross in Flight 2 (Steve Passmore/Sun Life Financial).

Low net was won by Terri Jones who also won a KP (MJB Lawyer).

Flight 3 low gross (TriPeaks Physio/Kelly McNabney) was won by Jamie Mosdell while low net winner Deb Winiski also scored a KP (Salle Ranch).

Quality Contractors sponsors Flight 4. Low gross with a 61 was Christine Campbell while low net winner Barb Smith also had a long putt (Barriere IDA).

Kayla Burian won two pins for long putts (Thompson Valley Awards and Barriere Motor Inn).

Zarina Mitchell was out for her first ladies’ night. She is usually behind the till. She had a long putt (Just U) and a long drive (The Local of Louis Creek Artisan Market).

Emma Schilling made a long drive to win the Station House Restaurant certificate while Kate Schilling’s long drive earned her the certificate from the Blue Moon Galeria.

Babes Shanko used her long drive to pick up the prize from Sam’s Pizza.

Well done, Ladies.

Susan Mitchell had the least putts (16) and Zarina Mitchell had the most putts (25). A number of ladies won a small gift from Drake’s Cremation and Funeral Service for driving their ball into the gully on Hole 7.

Many of the KP prizes went unclaimed so additional door prizes were drawn. NO ONE, I repeat, NO ONE had a deuce, birdie, chip-in, eagle or hole-in-one. It was that kind of night.

Word on the street is that the ladies came prepared by dressing warm and had a lot of fun. I did miss the socializing. I didn’t miss getting wet. I guess when all is said and done I am just a fair weather golfer.

When I talked to Deb on the phone this morning she said she had a fantastic round until she realized that she hadn’t marked down her score for Hole 9.

I might try doing that next week. Sure hope it is sunny. See you at the course.
