Quesnel Mounties seized drugs and cash following a May 17 investigation.

Quesnel RCMP seized $71,578 in cash, approximately 353 grams of fentanyl and approximately 1 kilogram of Cocaine after an investigation that started on May 17.

The investigation is ongoing but an RCMP news release says the results of the investigation will be sent to the federal prosecution service for assessment of charges. Mounties have not yet named anyone associated with the seizure.

Just a few grains of fentanyl can be lethal, the Government of Canada's website on the substance says. It is frequently found in street drugs and in many cases users don't know it's there. It is 20 to 40 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine, making it an extremely potent and dangerous drug. It is also odourless and tasteless.

The BC Coroner Service statistics on unregulated deaths say 70 per cent of people who died and underwent toxicology screening had fentanyl in their systems.
