The emergency department of the Barriere Health Centre has been closed on Aug. 21 due to unexpected temporary limited staffing availability, according to a news release on Aug. 21.

A staff member at the Barriere Health Centre commented, “The emergency department is closed but it is business as usual for the rest of the Health Centre.”

The physician clinic at the health centre remains open today for scheduled physician appointments. However, residents should take note of the following if they require care while the emergency department is closed:

• In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.

• Visit the emergency departments at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops or at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater.

• Call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 (24-hour service), if unsure about the need to go to the emergency department.

Note: Regular emergency department hours for the health centre in Barriere are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.
