Local athletes, Anthony Green and Leilani Celesta, Raine Celesta-Camille of Simpcw First Nation, Jazmine, Taya, Jayde and Grayce Nickel of Barriere all competed in a B.C. Snowboard sanctioned ‘SunPeaks Fun SBX Event’ a snowboard-cross race event that took place at SunPeaks this weekend as members of the Skwelkwelt SunPeaks Snowsports Team and took home hardware.
Jayde Nickel won gold, Taya Nickel, silver, Grayce Nickel and Leilani Celesta both won bronze and Jazmine Saunders a fourth. Competing in the men’s division Raine Celesta-Camille won silver and Anthony Green came away with a bronze.
The fun three-day event featured athletes from around the province with a team from Whistler being very competitive.
Local coaches Shelby Nickel from Barriere and Earl Celesta from Simpcw First Nation accompanied the athletes.
