“Good Night Sweetheart - well, it’s time to go. I hate to leave you but I really must say Good Night Sweetheart Good Night” When our kids were little we sang this song to them every night at bed time. On Tuesday night, Sept. 13, we said goodbye to our summer golfing buddies. I always feel a bit sad on the last night because I won’t see some of the ladies until next spring.
Forty ladies turned out for the last Ladies’ Night and we had a fantastic time. We celebrated Debbie Legaree’s retirement and sang Happy Birthday to all the ladies who have birthdays from the middle of September until early April. Two kinds of cake - chocolate and vanilla - you can’t get any better than that. We ended the evening by drawing for door prizes and everyone went home a winner.
Speaking of winners - in Flight 1 Teresa Young scored a 40 to win low gross while Terri Devick scored a 43 (36) to win low net. Doreen Landry won low net by retro in Flight 2 with a score of 48 and Trudy Forsythe took low net with the same 48 (31). Emma Schilling posted a score of 50 to win low gross in Flight 3. Audrey Rilcoe scored 52 (34) to nudge out by retro Jeannie Webber with the same score. In Flight 4 Kate Schilling had a 58 to win low gross while Bernice Randrup and Jamie Mosdell scored 60s to win for second low gross.
Leslie Stirling (that’s me) just about went crazy doing the financial calculations for the pots. There were eight pot winners. Wanda Wallace had a deuce in Flight 2. Theresa Young and Terri Devick has birdies in Flight 1 while Patty McCarthy, Doreen Landry and Cheryle Bewley had birdies in Flight 2. Hayley Bradford had a chip in for Flight 1 while Debbie Rainer and Babes Shanko split the Flight 2 pot. The remaining pots for each flight were combined and then divided by the ladies golfing in those flights. If you got a headache just reading that line imagine how I felt.
Of course, I am sure you are wondering who won the pin prizes. Long drive prizes went to Louise Lodge, Trudy Forsythe, Trish Thompson, and Wanda Amos. Betty Foote was the most accurate golfer - at least on Hole 3. Long putts were made by Hayley Bradford, Wanda Wallace, Trish Thompson, Lynda Fournier and Kayla Burian. It was mostly the usual suspects picking up prizes for going in the gully. KPs were made by Kelly McNabney, Deb Legaree, Leslie Stirling, Hayley Bradford and Patty McCarthy. KPs in 2 went to Theresa Robinson, Theresa Young and Leslie Stirling. On Hole 8 Theresa Young had a KP in 3. The least putt prize went to Audrey Rilcoe by retro with 14 putts and Susan Mitchell scored 25 putts to win the most putt prize.
Thank you to all our sponsors for their support. They help make the Ladies Night fun and exciting. Thank you to Jill at the ronaldomanosa for finding room for my weekly column and not yelling at me when I am a bit late. Thank you to the management and staff at Chinook Cove. Thanks, hugs and love to my golfing partners, Debbie Rainer and Donna Salle. And Lois McInnis - I missed you like crazy.
I am one of those people who always has a song singing in my head. It actually sounds better in there than it does coming out of my mouth. So I would like to leave you with one more song and I look forward to seeing you all back at the course next spring. Apologies to Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. ” Summer golfin’, had me a blast. Summer golfin’, happened so fast. Summer dreams ripped at the seams. But, oh, those summer nights.”
