Time to get the sunscreen out of storage and the iced tea mixed, with hot, dry weather to come and no end in sight. But on May 7, for this night only, it was extra windy and cold for us 27 ladies. Warmed by the good food from the clubhouse, most ladies stayed to hear the weekly prizes given out.

Hole 1: split between flights 3–4, long putt goes to Rose Seymour. Hole 2: flights 1–2, long putt goes to Susan Mitchell. For hole 3, the long drive for flight 3 goes to Hailey Cocker, and for flight 4 goes to Kristin O’Connor. Hole 4 KP winners: Kelly McNabney for flight 1, Babes Shanko for flight 2, Debbie Winiski for flight 3, and no winners for flight 4.

Heading across the road to hole 5: flight 1 long drive goes to Kelly McNabney, flight 2 long drive goes to Terri Jones, flight 3 long drive goes to Trish Thompson, flight 4 long drive goes to Kristin O’Connor.

Hole 6 KP winners: Karen Peterson for flight 1, no winners for flight 2, Hailey Cocker for flight 3, and Kristin O’Connor for flight 4.

There is a major gully where a golfer’s drive has to pass before they continue their game on hole 7. On Ladies’ Night, if a lady’s ball goes into the gully and does not pass it, they write their name on the “Rest In Peace” pin. Don’t worry, the ladies do get compensated for their lost ball (or balls, in some cases).

The ladies on the “Rest In Peace” pin for this week are Rose Seymour, Evelyn Lucas (x 2), Kayla Burian (x 2), Emma Schilling, and Nicole Huber. KP in 2, flights 1-2 goes to Susan Newberry. KP in 2, flights 3-4, goes to Kristin O’Connor. Hole 8: flight 1 long drive goes to Kelly McNabney; flight 2 long drive goes to Laurie Hawley. Hole 9 had a “closest to the 150 marker, any hit” pin for flight 4, and nobody put their name on that pin.

The least amount of putts goes to Donna Salle, with 14 putts. Most putts goes to Emma Schilling, with 28 putts. Flight 1, low gross goes to Kelly McNabney with a score of 38, and low net goes to Susan Newberry with a score of 34.5. For flight 2, low gross goes to Debbie Rainer with a score of 51, and low net is Terry Blaeser with a score of 29. Flight 3 low gross goes to Hailey Cocker with a score of 53, and low net goes to Debbie Winiski with a score of 33.5. Flight 4 low gross goes to Kristin O’Connor with a score of 54, and second lowest gross goes to Wanda Amos with a score of 56.

During our first week of Ladies’ Night, we had three chip-ins. History repeats itself, because we had another three chip-ins this week. Donna Salle had a chip-in on hole 3, and Debbie Rainer and Trish Thompson had chip-ins on hole 8. The pots for the chip-ins barely have time to grow. We also had one birdie: Susan Newberry on hole 7.

Here are a couple of terms to add to your golfing vocabulary:

Chip: A short shot typically made from very close to, and around, the green.

Thin: A shot that strikes near the centre of the ball, typically causing a low trajectory. Sometimes also called “skinny.”

Until next week, hats off, and see you out there on the greens at Chinook Cove soon!
