At 1:14 p.m. on Dec. 14 a Nomad Crane picker truck failed to make the turn off of the Clearwater River bridge just past the RCMP detachment in Clearwater.

The truck was attempting to make a right hand turn up Camp 2 Road in snowy driving conditions sliding into the ditch at the end of the bridge and base of the uphill road that leads to the former Trans Mountain pipeline camp area which is still being leased by the company.

Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) and RCMP attended the scene. No injuries to the driver and the vehicle was safely extracted carrying on up Camp 2 Hill followed by an identical picker truck from the same company.

The presence of the CVSE in Clearwater is no doubt reassuring to local residents following a recent double fatal not far south of the town on Dec. 2 when a Merritt couple driving to the area for a pre-Christmas visit were hit head-on by a commercial vehicle on Hwy. 5. near Little Fort.

A snowfall warning for the area ended at 3:47 p.m. Thursday.
