Daily 3 p.m. washroom closures help curb Barriere Park vandalism

'We aren't like a big city that can afford overnight security,' said Barriere corporate officer Tasha Buchanan.

Washroom closures at 3 p.m. daily continue at Fadear Park in Barriere due to vandalism in the washrooms and the bandshell.

"It has reduced a good portion of it," said Tasha Buchanan, corporate officer with the District of Barriere.

Recent vandalism has included incidents of broken glass on the band shell stage, rude graffiti - even with the use of all the washroom soap - painted on walls and lots of litter thrown on the ground, sometimes right next to garbage cans.

"We are not like a big city that can afford to have security through the night," she said. "We are hoping people will respect the park."

Buchanan said district staff did have to remove a picnic table from a tree the other day.
