Icy conditions are believed to play a role in a semi losing control and crashing on Highway 5 above the Tournament Capital Ranch Thursday morning (Jan. 10), said RCMP.
Cpl. James Grandy, District Advisory NCO for the RCMP, in a statement to Black Press said no charges were laid and no injuries to the driver were sustained in the incident, which occurred at about 11:40 a.m.
The semi jackknifed with the trailer hitting the rock bluff and breaking it in two and pulling the cab of the truck into the ditch.
This area is known to highway contractors as the rock fall zone ditch which was built specifically as a catchment for rocks breaking off of the rock slope to prevent them from hitting the highway on that corner of Highway 5.
Highway crews quickly marked the area with pylons, resanding both sides of the roadway following the crash on this busy corner.
When asked about the van seen in the same ditch nearby, Grandy said the file does not mention that vehicle in relation to the semi accident.
