On July 11, 2017, the North Thompson Activity Centre summer care program at the Barriere Ridge enjoyed a visit from the new Barriere Detachment Commander, Cpl. Robert Welsman. The officer explained to the youngsters about what a police officer does, he showed them a police vehicle, a finger printing kit, and a bulletproof vest (body armour) which one of the smallest children was very thrilled to be able to try on. Welsman is now transferring on to a posting in Alberta where he will be taking over as the detachment commander in Hanna, Alberta.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the communities in this area, and I want to thank so many in the community that made me feel so welcome,” said Welsman on his last day at the Barriere detachment, “I have so many fond memories of the people and places here. Thank you.”

Constable Jeremy Galvin will be the acting detachment commander for Barriere until a new NCO is announced.
