The Conservative Party of British Columbia announced on Thursday, March 14 there will be two new candidates running for Kamloops Centre and Kamloops-North Thompson. including Ward Stamer, current mayor of Barriere, for Kamloops-North Thompson.
Dennis Giesbrecht is the Conservative candidate for Kamloops Centre.
Executive director of the Conservative Party of B.C. issued a press release saying there will be a formal announcement made on Friday, March 15 at 10 a.m. held at the Columbia Lookout at 610 Columbia St. W. in Kamloops giving the two candidates the opportunity to “share their vision for the region.”
Stamer told Black Press he believes they have a good mix of experience in the Conservative Party of B.C. and they are really looking forward to hearing from constituents throughout the riding.
“I hope we will clarify and identify the priorities in this riding. We believe in the team approach which is why we’ve chosen to announce on Friday together in Kamloops. I live right in the middle of the riding for Kamloops-North Thompson and being involved with local politics I feel I have a good understanding of what the riding is looking for.”
The Barriere mayor feels that healthcare, housing and affordability, the opioid crisis are the big issues and says that he is “looking forward to listening to the people in the riding about their own concerns.”
He added he believes people are “looking for a change” in government.
