Thinking of our beautiful, talented brother Scott today. Scott left us for his next universal tour in 1994. He had malignant Melanoma and was a brave, loving, warrior. Please, if you have a mole that's changing, itching, crusty and concerning you get it checked. Take a photo and share with your doctor. A small, painless little punch biopsy could put your mind at rest and save your life. Have someone check your back. Try to be diligent twice a year at least. Scott asked us to remind you. It was a message given at his memorial at the old Upper Clearwater Hall in Wells Gray Country by his dear pathologist friend. We didn't know about Scott's 'message' until he got up to speak.
Please check twice a year and don't ignore those changes. Our talented, handsome, creative, hardworking, brother who taught at Emily Carr University and travelled the world, was an award winning filmmaker but most of all the best daddy, brother, son, nephew, grandson, uncle and friend and he asked us to keep reminding you, one and all.
It was a mole on his leg, under where your socks would cover. 'Just a mole'... Don't neglect your body's messages. Video and photos online make it possible to consult. So thankful for medical advances.
We continue to urge others to have their moles checked at least annually, take care in the sun by applying sun block, wearing hats, glasses and clothing for UV protection and check best times to enjoy the sun. Anyone is susceptible to skin cancer! Scott lived a healthy lifestyle, was in incredible physical shape throughout his life. We started our lives in California and baked in the sun without worry or care.
If you have ever burned - especially as a child, please check your moles, cover up in the sun, protect yourself and family from skin cancer.
Scott's final request and thoughts were for other's safety so they wouldn't go through the horrific battle that he endured so bravely trying to live for his son, Kai, who is now a very talented young man following a similar path as his father.
I'll sign this on his behalf,
Love, Scott.
