Winner of Barriere Senior Centre 50/50 treats parents to a holiday trip

Lance Teele from Kamloops was the lucky winner of the $5,000 Barriere Seniors Centre 50/50.

Teele is formerly from Barriere and came to visit his parents, buying his ticket from the local Farmer’s Market. Only 1,000 tickets were sold and the funds raised by the draw will be used to upgrade the kitchen at the Barriere Seniors Centre this year.

Teele’s parents, Cathy and Gary, were thrilled their son won the draw on Dec. 7, 2023.

“We were so excited for him, especially since he had an unfortunate dental issue with no dental coverage and was able to get that fixed right away and not dip into his savings since he saving up to buy a home soon. The nicest part of this was that Lance treated us on a trip to the island for Christmas where his sons and grandkids, our great-grandchildren, live. We have another family there in Langford as well. Lance wouldn’t let us pay for anything during the trip and we had a huge family dinner, renting a hall and everything. It was great,” said Cathy.

The Teele’s don’t travel much in the winter and told the ronaldomanosa they “really appreciated” such a wonderful Christmas “gift” being able to spend time with their family on the island.

“It was such a special time and I cried when we got to see everyone,” said Cathy. “It was a really happy holiday thanks to Lance.”
