Why long for the ‘good ol’ days’

Ah! The good old days – they don’t make em like they used to!

One would hope that the above Facebook post quoted by Barbara Roden in the Clearwater Times Sept. 7 is an attempt at satire? But one cannot be sure?!

I was recently in Edmonton where the smoke from the fires now raging across Canada was so thick that downtown Edmonton was obliterated – you couldn’t see the tall buildings.

My daughter showed me a post – Facebook? That had ‘Biden – arsonist’ on a sign – some guy standing in front of a raging fire – the message was that Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden were setting these fires – or their henchmen?? Nevermind global warming or just the fact that it’s dryer than heck, no there’s Trudeau and Biden running around with long matches in their hands.

Now one could dismiss all of this as the ranting of an ‘idiot’ but, There are those who will believe. Just as they appear to believe that a world without seatbelts and covered with lead-based paint was a great place to live.

Years ago there was this English satirist who would poke fun at the late Ugandan dictator Idi Amin on As It Happens CBC Radio. He told either the late Barbara Frum or Mary Lou Finlay that he just gave up – threw in the towel one might say! He could not think of anything that Idi Amin would do or say that was anymore ridiculous than Amin actually did do?!

Now this longing for those good old days with no seatbelts or safety caps on medicine bottles – they do save lives you know – just as masks and social distancing does! And vaccines for that matter.

So let us hope that Facebook post quoted by Barbara Roden is an attempt at great satire.

However in light of what is peddled and believed as fact it is quite possible that the person that posted this – oh those good old days with no bicycle helmets etc really believes all of this? – just as they believe that the Trudeau family benefits from every COVID ‘shot’ that is used?

I personally like to satirize some of this but! Where does one start!?
