“Canada Day celebrations in Barriere 2021 will again be looking somewhat different than they were in 2019,” says District of Barriere staffer Tasha Buchanan.

Due to the current pandemic and the resultant health regulations and requirements for social distancing, once again there will be no Canada Day gathering in Barriere’s Fadear Park on July 1.

However, Buchanan says Canada’s 154th birthday will be noticeably celebrated throughout the community that day with a Canada Day Vehicle Parade open to all.

“Last year’s Canada Day Vehicle Parade recognized our hard working front line workers and first responders,” says Buchanan, “This year the parade we will again be cheering for our front line workers; Barriere Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance, RCMP and Barriere First Responders will all be participating. But this year we are also asking for residents involvement as well. Individuals and/or families are being invited to participate with their decorated vehicle, float, or horse.”

Thanks to an annual Heritage Canada Grant Buchanan says there will be cash prizes awarded for the two top Vehicle Parade Entries. A purse of $200 for the ‘Best Effort’ entry, and $100 for the ‘Second Best Effort’.

There is no cost to enter, and all entries must comply with current COVID-19 regulations in regards to masks and social distancing.

Parade entrants will meet at the Barriere Fire Hall at 12 noon on July 1 and will then move out to travel the parade route around the community.

Buchanan says the route will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour for the parade to complete.

All entrants who wish to participate in the July 1 Canada Day Vehicle Parade must register in advance as the number of entries expected must be noted.

To register call Tasha Buchanan at the District of Barriere 250-672-9751 .
