The Barriere Curling Club (BCC) was rocking and rolling the evening of Saturday, Mar. 5. All thanks to ‘A night out country style with Tanner Dawson and Friends’,” reported BCC president Brian Bondar.
Promoter for the event, Charlie Kibble, said he was thrilled with the evening of outstanding music and entertainment provided by the Canadian country music singer and songwriter Tanner Dawson and his band. Kibble also noted the recent changes made by BC Health regarding COVID restrictions just before the event took place, allowed for dancing and a few more tickets able to be sold, “which made for a full facility turnout”.
“The Curling Rink lounge and entrance were decorated in a country theme by Bernice Randrup, thanks to items donated by Jill Dunbar,” said Bondar, adding, ”All the red checkered tablecloths added to the “cheery theme of the event, and the kitchen staff outdid themselves with the dinner and served up wholesome country grub,”
The meal consisted of meatloaf muffins, home baked beans, coleslaw, warm cornbread, and apple strudel with ice cream for dessert. The head cook was Susan Bondar, whose job was to orchestrate and organize the meal thanks to the help of Audrey Rilcoe, Gyslaine Hilborn, Gloria Pfannmuller, Laurel Cleland, Evelyn Pilatzke, Theresa Robinson and Bernice Randrup.
The refreshment bar was also a busy place for servers Jeannie Weber, Darin Underhill and Theresa Robinson.
“Tanner Dawson & Friends played both original and popular country tunes throughout the evening, and also kept the dance floor full,” said Bondar, “A huge thank you to promoter Charlie Kibble and all the community support for this event.”
Bondar says the Curling Club also hosted a Bingo on Sunday, Mar. 13, and they are currently planning a number of other events this month.
The last Skins Bonspiel for the year is scheduled for this Saturday, Mar. 19, and anyone looking to be on a team can call Brian Bondar at 250-672-5334.
“We’re planning a wind-up for the curling season with a Winter Olympics Sports theme that will take place on Saturday, Mar. 26,” concluded Bondar, “We are inviting everyone to come and tryout Paralympics curling, mono-bob and hockey - all with a twist. Everyone is welcome to participate in a potluck dinner and the sports events from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.”
