The Barriere RCMP detachment responded to an additional 15 calls for service during the past week, said Cpl. Kyle Camalush of the Barriere RCMP detachment.

On Friday, Feb. 9 the Barriere RCMP were made aware of a potential child-luring incident that took place during the afternoon at the skate park in Barriere, said Camalush.

“A nine-year-old student was approached by an unknown male in a black Volkswagen Jetta (90s model) asking if he wanted a ride,” Camalush said. “The student ran through a field and saw the male and vehicle again, however, he hid nearby.”

Police describe the male as a Caucasian in his 40s, with a round face and a long red beard that went down to his chest. The man was wearing a black hat.

“There were no reported events involving a black Jetta or a red-bearded male in relation to child-luring or suspicious circumstances in the past month in the surrounding jurisdictions, and no additional complaints to the Barriere detachment,” said Camalush. “The school board sent out an email to inform parents about the reported incident.”

Members of the public are being asked to contact the detachment if anyone has any further information about this incident.

Barriere RCMP were dispatched to an assault on Highway 5 in McLure on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

“A complainant called to report a confrontation with a male that disobeyed a traffic sign at an accident scene and then pushed him,” said Camalush.

”Barriere RCMP arrived on scene shortly after the call and spoke to the complainant, who informed the officer that he saw the suspect pass at the normal speed (passing lane), ignoring the speed before coming to a stop in the line. The complainant approached the male, and the male then pushed him back.”

RCMP spoke to both parties and then cleared the area as a motorist in the line was going into labour and needed to get through. No charges were laid.
