The Barriere and District Heritage Society (BDHS), which operates the North Thompson Museum and Archives, held their Annual General Meeting on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023. President is once again, Lorene Fennell, vice president, Donna Kibble, secretary-treasurer, Virginia Smith and directors; Fran Wagstaff, Darlene Hagen, Wim Houben.
The North Thompson Museum in Barriere, B.C. was opened in 1987 and is operated by the BDHS housing artifacts, archival records, and historical reference material relating to Barriere and the North Thompson region. The museum’s holdings incorporate material previously held at the Barriere Library.
The main focus in the upcoming year is to gather the history of events that have occurred in the area since 1960. The history book “Exploring Our Roots” published in 2004 documented the history of the area to 1959. Vice president, Donna Kibble says, “The society is gathering information on changes in the valley- roads, stores, bridges, organizations, events and school life from 1960 onward.”
Opening times for the museum located at 352 Lilley Road in Barriere are: June 30 to Aug. 31: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
