The Thompson Valley Players (TVP) along with the Musicians of Barriere (MOB) are looking for new members to get some exciting projects happening. The Thompson Valley Players are busy preparing for the spring and summer and coordinator, Beverly Murphy, is looking forward to the groups partnering in the valley.
“The Thompson Valley Players are looking to do a puppet workshop for all ages, to build and perform skits with puppets. We hope to have performances at the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo grounds and other venues around town. If you would like to come and take part, whether teaching or learning about puppetry, please call us for more information,” she said.
The theatre group and valley musicians hold “Open Mic” nights year-round, attracting musicians and performers from throughout the North Thompson, adds Murphy.
“Another project we are trying to get off the ground is a Lip Sync Battle (Air Band) contest starting in late spring with plans to hold competitions at the Fedear Park Band Shell with the finals during the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo. There will be some great prizes and cash awards being offered. To do this we need public input and help from volunteers to get it started,” said Murphy.
The two groups are “always looking for new members with new ideas” says the coordinator, in hopes of creating some new theatrical productions happening in the valley.
The Thompson Valley Players theatre group has been performing and involved in many events in the Barriere area since 1999. In their partnership with the MOB (Musicians of Barriere) both groups are hoping to attract new talent and volunteers to “create, perform and collaborate” on a variety of entertaining projects together in the near future.
“We are looking forward to new and exciting experiences in the season ahead. Maybe musical theatre for example? The “Open Mic” has shown great promise and will continue on a regular basis. The group is also working towards interesting workshops for our junior program and looking for instructors to assist in these programs,” explains Murphy.
Currently, there is a music circle held every second Sunday at the Fall Fair Hall, all skill levels and all ages are welcome to join in. If you share an interest in theatre or music, the groups are encouraging all ages to become involved and as Murphy adds, “Let’s make new things happen as we have so much fun together to provide local entertainment!”
