The 3rd Annual Mad Hatter Tea Party took place this year on Saturday, Mar. 12, in the Barriere Lions Hall.

Organizer Margaret Houben reported pre-ticket sales for the tea party only totaled 13 this year, and that 11 people actually turned out for the event.

”Everyone seemed to have fun doing the puzzles, colouring, playing croquet and visiting while waiting for lunch to be delivered,” said Houben.

She also noted while ticket sales were low, they did receive many donations as the event was a fundraiser for the Barriere Food Bank.

Prizes for hats were presented immediately after a pizza lunch, with young Willow Williams, wearing an elephant hat, receiving the prize for youngest person present. District of Barriere Councilor Donna Kibble received the most complete costume award dressed as a bear, complete with furry ears, a nose mask, and a warm fur coat.

All those who attended received at least two prizes, one for their hats, and one for a door prize.

“Thank you to everyone who attended or donated to this fun event,” said Houben, “Thank you to the hat judges and the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Ambassadors who ran the croquet game, and thank you to the Barriere Lions Club for the use of their hall.”

The total amount raised from the event came to $315 which is being donated to the Barriere Food Bank.
