Editor;
I’m writing this letter to bring awareness to the issue of people feeding other people’s horses without permission, something that can lead to a horse becoming quite sick or even in some cases dying.
I recently posted on social media about seeing someone stop last week along Highway 5 in Darfield where I live. These people were feeding my four horses dry noodle soup raw and a bottle of chocolate milk also. When I caught them doing this and confronted them, they took off very fast in a blue SUV. They left the wrappers from the food and the bottle from the chocolate milk in the field.
People need to understand how dangerous this can be for horses. It can cause loss of muscle control, respiratory distress, diarrhea, colic, bloat, intestinal upset. A horse can get diabetes, gastrointestinal obstructions; could have allergies to certain food, laminitis, some horses can’t eat or digest sugar all and all horses can’t have certain types of food to begin with. These foods are not safe for horses to eat and can lead to huge vet bills, illness for the animals and even death for a horse.
I’m writing this to make people aware and hope those that don’t know will now understand that it’s not acceptable to feed other people’s horses or any livestock or pets for that matter.
