Jim’s Food Market’s Little Fort location is making some changes in the New Year, says owner Pam Jim.
“It’s really exciting and we are looking forward to the upcoming renovations, both inside and outside the store in Little Fort,” said Jim.
The Little Fort location will be closed from Jan. 10 to Feb. 15, with no fuel or grocery available during that time. A new “food option” will be offered once the former sandwich counter is renovated, although details are being under wraps until the reopening as a “surprise” for customers.
“One thing I can say is that it will not be a franchise food counter,” offered Jim.
Asked about the establishment of the North Thompson store, Jim said “The original store was built in 1919. The store was owned by Kam Kee and Ng She Jim, and was located on Ferry Road. By 1965 it was relocated to its present location on Highway 5 and operated by Marie and Loy Jim. The store is still operated by family members.
“In the late 1980s alcohol and public washrooms were added. 1999 saw a complete renovation inside and over the years it sold Texaco, Shell, and Husky fuel, and now will be returning to Shell.”
The complete shutdown will enable new pumps to be installed, along with a major overhaul of the interior.
“Once the inside store part is complete the renovations will continue into what was the Subway,” said Jim. “The new food option will be announced upon opening again, and we think the public will be really pleased with a new food service inside again.”
The Barriere Star/Journal and the Clearwater Times will be on hand for the grand reopening in mid-February. “Jim’s Food Market’s family and staff apologize for any inconvenience as we look forward to continuing to serve the valley at this key hub along Highway 5,” said Pam Jim on behalf of the Jim family.
