On Nov. 22, Barriere Interior Savings Insurance and Credit Union and Gore Insurance presented two cheques of $1,500 each to Mary MacLennan and Franz Friesinger of the Barriere Outdoor Club.
Gore Insurance matched Interior Savings’ donation, which was made possible by the teamwork of the Barriere branch and the fundraising efforts on Jeans Day and the branch garage sale, which fills the donation basket account.
This is Gore Insurance’s second donation match. Their first was in 2021, when Barriere Search and Rescue received cheques for $1,000 each from the two institutions.
The Barriere Outdoor Club provides and maintains trails for people of all ages. In addition to servicing the trails, the club does local tree removal and trail improvements, and is now fundraising for an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to assist in this work. The club offers lessons and provides equipment to students, in an effort to promote physical literacy and fitness through snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
The club also organizes an annual Barriere Amazing Race for family fun and sport, as well as organizing the local pickleball games in Barriere, supplying equipment, and teaching all ages the sport of pickleball.
New members are always welcomed by the club, to support local community initiatives. Annual membership is $15 per year, and the club currently has 100 members.
