Barriere Fire Rescue (BFR) and the Barriere Firefighter’s Association (BFFA) will be holding their annual Charity Walk and Wildfire Preparedness Day on May 3, 2025, in Barriere.
FireSmart coordinator Ronja Baggio told the Barriere Star / Journal, “Every year the BFFA is excited to host our 10-kilometre Charity Walk where firefighters walk in full turn-out gear to raise funds for the Barriere Firefighters Association and a charity of their choice. This year, 50 percent of the funds raised will go to the Barriere Food Bank. The goal for this year is to raise $3,000 in total.”
Baggio added that this year, the BFFA has partnered with Barriere Fire Rescue’s FireSmart Program to host a Wildfire Preparedness Day Market at Fadear Park and Bandshell following the Charity Walk.
The 10km Charity Walk will start at Fadear Park and Bandshell at 10:00 a.m. and the Wildfire Preparedness Day market will start at noon.
“Wildfire Preparedness Day will have an outdoor market set up with FireSmart information booths, local artisans and vendors, games for kids, local emergency services and a barbecue," Baggio said.

The BFFA is accepting donations via cash, cheque, or e-transfer to the above email. Baggio said they are also accepting nonperishable foods prior to the event or they can be dropped off at the Barriere Fire Department or accepted during the Charity Walk event.
“While all food and toiletry items are gladly accepted and appreciated, the Barriere Food Bank is especially in need of items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, razors and shaving cream,” said Baggio.
