Barriere Curling Club is in Fulling Curling Mode!
The Barriere Curling Club (BCC) is going at full speed with a variety of events. The ice is in excellent shape, the volunteers are organized, and all the curlers are eager to “hurry hard!”
On Nov. 25 BCC hosted our annual Skins Bonspiel. The sheets were full of teams from Clearwater, Kamloops, Armstrong, Rocky Mountain House and local rinks. The curlers enjoyed a full day of curling, a delicious lunch and dinner. The Overby family rink from Kamloops/Armstrong took first place with the most ends won. This was a family team with the seniors in their 80s curling with their daughter. The Todd Phillips team from Clearwater came in second, while Darin Underhill’s team The Unsuitables came in third.
On Friday Dec. 1, Paradigm Panels sponsored a fun day of curling as a fundraiser for the Simpcw playground. Thirty-two curlers learned the finer points of the game with the BCC providing the coaching. Fun was had by all, both on and off the ice. BCC was proud to showcase our facility to out-of-town guests.
As part of Barriere’s first Winterfest, the club hosted our Christmas bingo on Dec. 10. There was recreational bingo, lunch, raffles, prizes and fun with friends.
Barriere Cubs/Scouts will be learning to curl on Dec. 12 and 19. Coaching volunteers from the club teach the children how to curl and the sportsmanship of the game. Hopefully these youngsters will enjoy the benefits of the sport and become life-long curlers.
BCC is renting their lounge area for a company staff party on Dec. 15. The BCC is the perfect facility for curling and non-curling rentals. The commercial kitchen, touchless washrooms and fully stocked lounge offer whatever options you require.
The new curling house viewing monitors, electronic bingo machine, lounge flooring, and many other upgrades make the BCC a first-rate affordable facility for events.
Both Wednesday afternoon and Friday evenings, curlers with be having their windup potluck events on Dec. 20 and 22. This will end the first half of the season. The second half will start in the new year. Anyone wanting to curl can still join in the fun.
Come check us out at the club any Wednesday afternoon or Friday evening to watch the games or view the facility.
