The Anti-Violence Advocates Society in Barriere is asking the public in the North Thompson Valley for donations of new cozy socks and women’s pyjamas of all sizes. The items will be distributed through women’s shelters in Kamloops where women and children go from the North Thompson if leaving an abusive situation.

Each woman and child is given the new items when they arrive at a shelter to comfort them in times of need and the ask for new items is due to them having already gone through so much the society feels that by giving something fresh and all their own it will offer that much needed comfort. All sizes are welcome and can be dropped off in Barriere at the Chamber of Commerce office Monday to Friday from 10 to 2 a.m. Donations will be collected until March 26.

Gordon explains, “The Anti-Violence group was started in Barriere in 2014 in the North Thompson Valley and we are working with the shelters in Kamloops, which is where the women go and those shelters will be providing us with a list of their needs off and on so we can pull together to gather what is needed in support.”
