Tuesday, July 5, started cloudy and drizzly. I didn’t really expect a big turnout to Ladies Night but 31 brave souls turned out and the weather cleared up to provide us with a lovely afternoon of golf. Although the afternoon was lovely, my golf game was not. The foursome was down to two…Donna Salle and myself. Debbie was off sunning herself in the Canary Islands. We missed her.
The low gross/net prizes were sponsored this week by Ainsley Gullage of SunLife, Kelly McNabney of TriPeaks Physio, the Carls (Brian and Brenda) and Campbell & Co. Kelly McNabney had a phenomenal score of 34 to win low gross in Flight 1. If memory serves me well that is the lowest score to be posted in the history of Ladies Night at Chinook Cove. Louise Lodge had low net with a score of 41 (35.5). Fiona Clare was out for a visit and took low gross in Flight 2 with a score of 53 (by retro). Lorie Chambers also scored 53 (36) to win low net. In Flight 3 Anita Hill took low gross with a 55 while Emma Schilling scored 58 (34) to win low net. Low gross in Flight 4 was Kate Schilling with a 61 and second low gross was Sharon Spooner with a 65.
Kelly McNabney had four birdies while Louise Lodge had a birdie/chip in. Terri Jones and Kathy Cook split the Flight 2 chip in pot. I think another record was broken by one of our Flight 1 golfers who scored a 19 on Hole 2. I have chosen to leave out her name and we will see if she is brave enough to own up to it. For you non-golfers that means she hit the ball 15 times more than the hole calls for. I have been in her shoes (well maybe not for 19) and know how a hole can go from bad to worse…often involving a sand-trap or two.
Many of the usual suspects took home prizes. Janice Advent had a long drive on Hole 1 to take the coveted Thompson Valley Awards prize. I have yet to win this prize. This might not be the year. Kate Schilling won the AG Foods certificate for long drive on the same hole. On Hole 2 longs putts earned prizes for Anita Hill (Armour Mountain Office) and Lorie Chambers (Barriere Motor Inn). Hole 3 long drives went to Doreen Landry (Little Fort Subway), Emma Schilling (Munro’s Clothing), Sharon Spooner (Rainer Custom Cutting) and Kelly McNabney (Barriere Timber Mart). Kelly also picked up two KPs (Cindy Leibel Realtor and Barb and Carman Smith) and a KP in 2 (HUB International. KPs on Hole 4 were also won by Deb Winiski (Salle Ranch) and Jamie Mosdell (Stamer Logging). Emma Schilling had a nice putt on Hole 5 (Sam’s Pizza) while Karen Peterson (Station House Restaurant) and Louise Lodge (MJB Lawyers) had their putts on Hole 8 and 9. Louise Lodge used her putter 11 times to get low putts and Kayla Burian won most putts by retro with 25. I promised my buddy Donna Salle I wouldn’t tell who was the other person who had 25 putts so I won’t.
Our July Fun Night is July 19, and it will be a shot gun start at 5 p.m. Be sure to come early so we are all ready to go when the horn sounds. The number of teams is limited so please sign up early (it also lets the cooks know how many to cook for). The cost is $50 for folks who haven’t paid the annual green fees and $40 for those who have (I misspoke last week). The cost includes golf, cart, meal (turkey dinner, hurrah) and prizes. The theme is the Wedding Party. See you at the course.
