The W.L Seaton Sonics high school rugby team lost just one game all season, on route to a bronze medal winning performance at provincials.

A Vernon high school brought home some hardware at a provincial rugby competition.

The W.L. Seaton Sonics senior girls rugby 7s team won bronze at the provincial championship, hosted May 29-June 1 in Abbotsford.

Throughout their regular season, the Sonics went undefeated, beating all Okanagan teams they faced. That led them primed and ready for the provincial championship.

Rugby 7s is a shorter form of rugby, with seven players on each side playing two seven-minute halves. This assures a faster paced, athletic game.

In pool play, Seaton defeated St. Thomas More (36-7), Elgin Park (36-0) and Reynolds (26-7) to finish atop their group.

The team's 3-0 record led to a selection into the eight team championship side of the draw. Game one (quarterfinal), against Salmon Arm's J.L Jackson was a comfortable 38-5 victory. In the semi-final, the Sonics faced off against Victoria's Claremont Spartans.

The Spartans got three tries in the first half to establish a dominant lead. Then, the Sonics began clawing their way back, grabbing a try with five minutes left. However, Claremont was able to exert their defensive pressure to stop Seaton from any more tries. The 17-7 defeat was the Sonics first of the season.

Seaton was able to shake off the loss in the bronze medal match, defeating Lake City 17-12.

Mya Koleba was named a tournament all-star for the Sonics.
