The Grade 8’s ski and snowshoe program wrapped up their final lesson with sunshine, laughter, and a yummy hot dog roast.
The Barriere Secondary students also participated in a ‘Snowshoe for Knowledge/Scavenger Hunt’. Students were divided into two groups, girls versus the boys and with the help of Barriere Outdoor Club volunteers, snowshoed along the trails, going from station to station where they had to identify deer antlers, tree branches, cones, wild animal tracks and answer questions pertaining to the native flora and fauna, along with some basic wilderness survival questions.
Boys in this last class were faster getting around the trails than the girls, but a good time was had by all!
Thanks to Mary MacLennan who organized it all, assisted by ski coaches Tammy Macdonald and Debbie Cruzelle. Also a big thanks to the school athletic director Brian Tommasini and all the Barriere Outdoor Club volunteers who make this program possible.
