A centurion‘s servant was stricken with paralysis and was dying. While the centurion had never seen Christ in person, he had heard stories of His kindness and healing power. These reports inspired him to believe that Jesus could and would heal his servant.

Not feeling worthy of coming into Jesus’ presence with his request for his servant’s healing, he asked the Jewish elders to go speak for him. He figured they knew Christ pretty well and would know better how to win His favor.

As Jesus came into Capernaum, He was met by these elders who told Him about the centurion’s request. They assured Christ that he was worthy of his desire being granted because he loved the Jews and had built them a synagogue.

Immediately, Jesus started toward the centurion’s home, but word of His coming reached the centurion. Not trusting himself to come, he sent a message that Christ not trouble Himself to come, for he was unworthy for Him to come under his roof.

Still Jesus pressed on, and the centurion ventured to come himself, saying, “Neither did I feel worthy to come to You. Just speak the word only, and my servant will be healed. As I have authority over soldiers and they do what I say, so You are God and all created things obey Your word.”

Jesus marveled at him, and turning toward the crowd exclaimed, “I have not found so great a faith in all Israel.” And to the centurion He said, “As you’ve believed, so shall it be done for you.” And the servant was healed that very hour.

Let’s all of us come to God to be healed physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. He loves us deeply and wants what is best for us. We can trust Him fully.
