Ruby will be sadly missed but not forgotten by her family and friends. Ruby passed away on February 12, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Ruby was born on July 17, 1923, in Burns Lake, B.C.

She had two brothers, and six sisters, and was the last surviving member of the Helkenberg Family. Her mother passed away when she was only 10 years old, and she assumed many duties of the household at an early age.

She lived in Hazelton, McBride, Louis Creek, Prince George, Vernon, and finally Barriere.

In 1940 she married George Morgan, and had three children; George, Carol (deceased) and James. They lived in McBride and then Louis Creek, where George was the main log scaler for Fadear Creek Sawmill until his death in 1969.

Ruby eventually moved to Prince George. There she assumed many duties at her sister’s second hand store on Giscome Highway, and worked hard to help build a successful family business.

Ruby moved to Barriere around 10 years ago and for the following years Ruby was involved with her great grandchildren; caregiving, baking lots of goodies, and providing sound, caring knowledge. Her highlight of her day was to visit with her great grandson Hayden. She was very proud of her family’s accomplishments.

Ruby was an avid reader, who read daily. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, puzzles, playing cards, knitting, baking, and her faith. She was a loyal believer in Jehovah’s Witness, and it provided her with many friends here in Barriere and afar.

Left behind is her son James Morgan (Oyama), granddaughter Shelley Ewashina (Wink), Rozalind, Darby and Hayden, and granddaughter Dana Morgan (Camrose, Alberta) and her three children Christopher, Jacey, and Skylar.

In lieu of flowers people can make a donation if they wish to the Barriere Health Clinic in her name, as Ruby was always very appreciative of Dr. Jack’s help, the girls in the office, and, in the end Dr. Clare.

Please remember Ruby for her quiet, respectful demeanor, her incredible independence, and her kindness to others.
