The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is encouraging residents to pay bills in-person or online to avoid any disruptions in submitting their payment due to the ongoing Canada Post strike.
On Nov. 19 the TNRD issued a reminder for water and sewer customers that the Quarter 3 utility bill payments were due by Nov. 29, 2024. Following that deadline if there are any utility balances unpaid as of Dec. 31 those outstanding amounts will be transferred to residents’ annual property taxes and accrue interest daily, in accordance with section 245(1) of the Community Charter, states a press release from TNRD management.
For TNRD commercial tipping customers, invoices are due within 30 days of the invoice date.
The regional district is suggesting the following alternative options in place of sending via the postal service:
- Bank Transfer (e-billing): Use your bank’s online bill payment service for payee name THOMPSON-NICOLA REGIONAL DISTRICT – UTILITIES. Please note that the payee name may vary slightly between financial institutions. Please include your 13-digit account number for Utilities accounts, or your customer number on your invoice.
- In-Person: Visit the TNRD office at 300-465 Victoria Street in Kamloops to pay by cash, cheque or debit. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays.
- Online Portal (for commercial tipping customers): Make a payment or check your commercial tipping account balance by visiting: app.tnrd.ca.
TNRD director for Area “O”, Jill Hayward spoke with Black Press about e-billing, saying, “I encourage our TNRD area residents that are online to take advantage of being able to receive and pay their TNRD utility system bills electronically due to the Canada Post strike. Unfortunately, not everyone is online, but if you are, I encourage you to sign up for electronic billing. Once you sign up you'll find it so much quicker than writing cheques and putting them in the mail.”
The TNRD advises residents and commercial customers to contact the accounts receivable department at: ar@tnrd.ca and be sure to have your account number ready.
The TNRD administration also advise suppliers receiving cheque payments from the regional district to set up direct deposit. To do this fill out the Electronic Funds Transfer application form and submit directly to: ap@tnrd.ca with a blank cheque or direct deposit form from your bank or financial institution. As of January 1, 2025 all TNRD supplier payments will transition to electronic payment.
