Clearwater RCMP responded to 24 calls for service from Nov. 22 to Nov. 27, said detachment commander Sgt. Grant Simpson.
On Tuesday, Nov 22 at 9:12 p.m. the BC Ambulance Service requested Clearwater RCMP to attend a two vehicle collision located at 1800 block of Hwy 5, in Avola B.C. Const. Klassen attended and determined that a 46-year-old Abbotsford man was driving a semi north bound while a 59-year-old Maple Ridge man was driving a Ledcor sand truck south when the two side-swiped each other on a straight stretch. The semi came to a stop on the highway and had damage to the driver side. The sand truck had severe damage to the driver side cab and was in the south bound ditch. The white 2013 Volvo Tractor and trailer were towed by the local heavy recovery tow company, while the sand truck, a green 2019 Kenworth was not impeding traffic and would be dealt with by the company. The driver of the Volvo was uninjured, however the sand truck driver complained of sore legs and back but was walking. Initial assessment of the scene suggests that the Volvo was encroaching upon the sand trucks lane. Investigation is ongoing.
On Nov. 24, at 7:47 a.m. a 34-year-old Clearwater man reported that a neighbor had just thrown two molotov cocktails at his house in the 1400 block of Davy Road before getting into the passenger side of a green two-door Mitsubishi that fled towards Clearwater. Police attended and processed the scene seizing several exhibits for their evidentiary value. Photographs of the scene were also obtained. A statement was obtained from the complainant who insists his neighbor was responsible based on his observation. A jacket ditched on Bain Road with burn marks, that was apparently discarded by the same vehicle as per an independent witness was also seized. The neighbor’s common law provided video which showed him leaving the house at 5:20 a.m. He was located at a residence in the 1400 block of Cutts Rd. which happened to have driveway surveillance, correctly time/date calibrated that showed he was at this residence all morning, including during the offence time frame. The complainant was advised of this information. More surveillance video to be reviewed. Exhibits will be examined forensically. Police are asking anyone with any information regarding this offence or the suspect vehicle, to contact them or Crimestoppers, should they wish to remain anonymous.
On Nov. 27, at 7:52 a.m. a 32-year-old Vavenby woman called the police to report a woman screaming for help near the 3000 block of Harmon Road before she located a 22-year-old woman from out-of-town. The young woman was extremely cold, wearing only a long-sleeved shirt, mid calf slippers and jogging pants. She advised she was at another residence in the 3000 block of Hundsbedt Road, but was asked to leave. She had been wandering around for hours before yelling for help due to being cold. BC Ambulance Service attended and confirmed she was not hypothermic or requiring further treatment which she declined.
She had no apparent injuries and would not elaborate on why she was asked to leave, or what happened specifically. She only admitted she used illicit drugs. Her grandmother reluctantly agreed to take her in for the time being as her biological mother and other local family have cut ties with her.
The homeowners who had asked her to leave advised that the young woman had flipped out and was told to leave, which she did, but without a jacket. Both claim that they followed her briefly trying to get her to take her jacket but she refused.
Grandmother was advised of the minimum options available locally to assist with her granddaughter’s addictions and behavior. Grandmother advised that she is going to contact her son (granddaughter’s dad) to see if he can come and take her there, to distance her from the drug scene here. Investigation is ongoing.
